Our story

How two people who believe in people built a business around one of life's biggest moments.

Salama McFarland spent 25 years showing up for people in their hardest seasons. As a senior administrator with the Camden County Board of Social Services, she worked alongside buyers navigating unemployment, housing instability, and the kind of uncertainty that makes the future feel out of reach. She learned early that what people need most in those moments isn’t just a resource — it’s someone who believes the situation can change.

 

That conviction never left her. It just found a new address.

Where it started

“We didn’t get into real estate to sell houses. We got into it because we believe homeownership changes lives — and we wanted to be the ones helping people get there.”

A Partnership Built on Purpose

Salama and Asata McFarland have been partners in life since 1988 — and partners in business long before real estate entered the picture. When Salama earned her real estate license, Asata was right beside her. Not because it made sense on paper, but because everything they’ve built together has been rooted in the same thing: a genuine desire to see people win.

 

Together, they founded The McFarland Group for Homes — a South Jersey real estate and homebuyer coaching company serving buyers across Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, and Mercer counties. Their combined background spans real estate, financial coaching, community development, and over three decades of walking alongside people through major life transitions.

 

They don’t just bring experience to the table. They bring history — with each other, with the communities they serve, and with the belief that the right guidance at the right moment can completely change someone’s trajectory.

Why Education Comes First

Early in their real estate careers, Salama and Asata noticed a pattern. Buyers were showing up to transactions underprepared — not because they weren’t smart or capable, but because nobody had ever sat down and explained how any of it actually worked. The credit requirements. The true cost of homeownership. What to look for in a contract. What questions to ask a lender.

 

So they built something to fix that.

 

The First-Time Homebuyer Coaching Program is a 6-module virtual experience that walks buyers through every stage of the journey — from financial preparation to closing day and beyond. With live sessions, expert guest presenters, and hands-on worksheets, it’s designed to make sure that by the time a buyer makes an offer, they’re not just hopeful. They’re ready.

What’s next

After 25 years of public service, Salama is stepping fully into entrepreneurship — bringing everything she learned about systems, advocacy, and human potential into the work she and Asata have been building together. The vision is bigger than real estate transactions. Through the Wisdom to Prosper ecosystem, they’re working toward a future that includes financial literacy education, wealth-building resources, and community development programming — all rooted in the same values that have guided them from the beginning.

 

But right now, today, the focus is you. The buyer who’s been wondering if homeownership is really possible. The person who’s googled ‘how to buy a house’ seventeen times and still isn’t sure where to start. The one who just needs someone in their corner who actually knows what they’re doing — and actually cares how it turns out.

Salama brings 25 years of advocacy, operations leadership, and community service to every client relationship. She leads the First-Time Homebuyer Coaching Program and serves as Director of Victorious Business Professionals Ministry at Victory in Christ Christian Center.

Asata McFarland

Licensed Realtor | Co-Founder | Human Services Professional | 10 Years Experience  Asata co-leads The McFarland Group for Homes alongside Salama, bringing a steady, strategic presence to every transaction. A Human Services Specialist and award-winning educator recognized as ESP Professional of the Year (2023), Asata brings deep expertise in client advocacy, workforce coaching, and financial guidance. Together, Salama and Asata have been partners in life and business for over 35 years.
